We are a team of ASE certified mechanics that have created this guide so you can save money and do the job right. Let’s jump right in! Before you begin its good idea to see how the system works. If you don’t vacuum the system the AC will not be as cold because of the normal air which is trapped inside. Many manufactures recommend the system be vacuumed down each time you service the system to remove residual moisture which helps the compressor last longer. Watch the video below to see how the job is done and then continue reading for tips and information which is updated regularly. Apply the emergency brake with the transmission in park and wear protective eye wear and gloves. After replacing a failed component the system is “flat” you are now ready to vacuum the system down and recharge it.

They use R refrigerant and have mechanical cable operated controls just like the military Hmmwv’s. This is a and early Control head. Later models came with the later head used in The heater valve on these systems is electrically controlled.
After that I’ll vent the nitrogen, and hook up a vacuum pump. I use copper tubing, put an isolation valve on the vacuum pump and at both access ports, and I find one more location to attach my micron gauge, also with an isolation valve.
You do your own plumbing, home improvements, and even change the oil in your car. Should you attempt it or are geothermal heat pumps just too complicated for even gifted amateurs? The answer is a little complicated. Obviously, there are some technical differences, but nothing obnoxiously complicated. You need a location for the pump, convenient connections to the interior ductwork, and easy access to the exterior ground loop.
If you know your way around wires and utility boxes, this too is an area you should be able to handle. The ground installation type will determine how much earthwork is required. Even relatively shallow excavation, about six feet or so in our case, can be dangerous. A word of warning:

Before you want to get any of these tools you will have to become HVAC certified, otherwise known as EPA certified, well not all of the tools but most of them. So let me get you started with some hvac training on the tools that you will need day to day. This is assuming that you will be troubleshooting and replacing hvac systems that are in residential homes or apartments. You will need some gauges, this is necessary to know the pressure of the hvac system, and also necessary to remove or recover refrigerant, as to add refrigerant to the system if it is necessary.
Make sure that you have a set of gauges that will be able to detect the pressure of the type of refrigerant of the system you will most likely to be working on.
Jul 31, · The reason HVAC uses vacuum to remove moisture isn’t what most people think. The high vacuum boils the water in the system, then the water vapor gets removed. Not all of the vacuum pumps used for HVAC are electric.
I am sorry that your father in law paid that much for a low end piece of equipment. But on the other side of the coin, how much did it cost to build the car your driving, produce the gas it uses, to be repaired at the shop. I bet no one ever thinks about that. But to me climate control and safety for my household is worth a ton more. But when it comes to me making what I make I am a thief.
I do not understand the general public and their reason behind this, but I’m not here to argue and I know what I’m worth. Nothing makes me more crazy than a lic. It is the contractors marking up the cost and making more on the mark up than the entire job. It is far from rocket science and all the answers are available on google.
I would rather pay someone to do the work for me however, No lic contract is worth 5, profit for a days labor. The company I found is charging us In the mean time, he has been helpful with his advice. It is obvious that most contractors spend their time explaining why they are worth the money mostly because they know they are overcharging.

Tested as described above. First I just pulled the the main vacuum line off the manifold. I figured that’d be a good place to start. Pumped it down to about and let it sit for 30 mintues. Held vacuum just fine. So of course I’m all sorts of confused because I’m thinking the vacuum system is fine.
The vacuum pump line runs from the pump which is below the alternator on the passenger side of the truck to the top of the engine where it meets up with the waste gate. A vacuum line runs from there to the firewall where is goes to all the HVAC door motors.
Vacuuming your swimming pool is something that should be done on a weekly basis. Sometimes your swimming pool may not look dirty but there is actually lots of bacteria that you can not see growing on the walls and the floor of the swimming pool. The most important thing you have to remember when vacuuming any swimming pool is that have a good prime is the key to have great suction.
Often many pool owners do not spend enough time properly priming the vacuum hose only to experience hours and hours of problems because they just can not get the debris off of the pool floor. This happens because the swimming pool vacuum has a bad prime. There are a few things that you will need in order to vacuum your pool the correct way.
You will need a vacuum hose that will reach all the way from one end of your pool to the other. You will also need a telescoping vacuum pole, vacuum head and a skimmer vacuum disk. Once you have the items that we listed you will be ready to vacuum your swimming pool manually. The first thing you will want to do before you start vacuuming your pool is to determine if you are going to need a regular vacuum or a swimming pool power vacuum. The way you can determine this is to gauge how much debris you have in your swimming pool.
If your pool is dirty with the normal everyday debris like leaves, some sand and sticks then you probably can get away with just doing a normal vacuum. If you however have lots of heavy dirt, sand or algae you will want to power vacuum your swimming pool.
It is no small feat to install an air conditioner condenser. This repair is not recommended for anyone except currently certified refrigeration technicians. Follow the instructions below for safe installation.

Updated June 8, If this site has helped you consider a Donation. Donation Info Diesel engines do not make vacuum like a gas engine does. The intake manifold on a diesel is at atmospheric or a positive pressure if it’s a turbo. Cars use engine vacuum to run accessories such as power brakes, hvac vents and turbo boost controllers.
The Hummer uses a hydroboost braking system that utilizes the power steering pump to supply pressure for the power brakes. Because the hummer needs vacuum to run certain accessories such as the HVAC system, there is a vacuum pump mounted on the engine behind the alternator to supply vacuum. The pump needs to make 22″ of vacuum. The Napa part number for 6. Otherwise get it from AMG. A Lisle Pulley Puller kit is a pretty good one to buy.
These are very common and you can get them at auto supply stores.

Yes you can do this if you: I get this question a lot in my emails and wanted to address it. The time and materials it would take to change an air conditioner into a heat pump are not worth it.
let a HVAC technician hook up the wiring and coolant lines and charge the system. Use your $$ to buy a vacuum pump, gauges, and oxy brazing torch off CL or ebay. Have fun and learn. 1. basically yes. 2. Best to have heat outlets at floor level, heat rises. Yes, it would be worth it.
Second inspect the base of the hose nipple inlet port for a good sealant bead. I can’t tell you how many pumps we get with the hose nipple replaced with some other fitting that is not properly sealed with a good vacuum sealant. Assuming adequate oil quality and lubrication has been inspected and is present. Then remove belt guard and turn pump motor on. If the pump pulley is rotating and still low vacuum pressures micron or so are present then turn the pump off.
Best guess is the exhaust valves on the exhaust stator are broken. The pump needs repair or overhaul. The pump is locked up Well you gone and done it now. Check the pump for oil. Fill to correct level and manually actuate pump, assuming you can. Sometimes it is possible to manually actuate a pump back into service using the method described above.

To many owners of the older Mercedes diesel cars, the vacuum system continues to be an amazing mystery. Full of weird components and even weirder operation of all kinds of stuff on the car. Well I am here to tell you today, it is not that complicated and mysterious.
To be quite frank, vacuum systems are much easier to both understand and troubleshoot, than an electrical system is.
Jun 08, · about the only thing you gain with the higher cfm pumps is speed. it will pull a 30″ vacuum faster than the lower rated pump, but you are going to need to hold that vacuum reading for minutes anyway, so getting the lower rated pump for home .
How to Vacuum an AC System by Ezmeralda Lee It is important to vacuum an air-conditioning system to remove any air or moisture that may damage the system in the long run. Moisture in the AC system is a serious problem, because moisture reduces the performance of the AC system and condensation of water can cause the AC system to freeze.
Condensed water particles corrode the AC system and cause long-term damage. Creating a vacuum deep enough to boil moisture away by using a vacuum pump on a regular basis is an effective, low-cost method of maintaining a healthy AC system. Pumps can be purchased or rented, if you don’t want to make a permanent investment. The pump hose should be attached to the low-pressure port of the refrigerant gauge. The hose is attached, in simplified terms, to the port that is found in the middle of the gauges.
This step is very important in vacuuming the AC system. It helps maintain the vacuum even after the pump shuts down. Refrigerant can be added only after the correct level of vacuum is maintained. Keep checking the gauge till the vacuum level reaches 27 Hg. Allow the pump to run for no less than 30 minutes.

Ice Is Building Up Moisture inside refrigerant lines can contaminate the lines, causing your air conditioning unit to become sluggish. Refrigerant already in the lines combines with the moisture that enters the lines. The two gold-colored valves are located on the refrigerant lines, where the lines enter the condensing unit. Thread each valve onto its respective hose by turning the valve in a clockwise motion, just as you would thread a watering hose onto an outside water spigot.

Once you’ve completed that you can purge some dry nitrogen through it to chase out little droplets that were missed. A good place to hook up a large hose is at the relief valve hole, if you have a heat exchanger with a header for multiple hoses you can hook up several, the more the better. You are pulling a vacuum through the exchanger.
You will need a few large tanks of liquid nitrogen. You can also play around with filling it up, letting it boil off a little then add again. It will require pretty constant supervision, its a good opportunity for some lower paid apprentices to get some overtime as shift work is the way to handle this instead of killing one guy. This procedure allows you to operate the pump without having to go through multiple oil changes because the cold trap will freeze all of the moisture before it gets to the vacuum pump.
How to Install a Condensate Pump: 11 Steps (with Pictures)
I have put on gauges and turned unit on. I closed service valve on low pressure side and the pressure increased on low side but never went down to a vacuum. The reason being is that the pressures being read when a valve is closed, is the pressure upstream of the valve, towards the evaporator. Pulling a system into a vacuum is done with a vacuum pump and you wouldn’t close either line to accomplish this, but just hook up the pump and pull it down to microns or less.
Once I hit microns I let the pump run for 45 mins to pull a good vacuum. If you are actually trying to pump the freon into the compressor which is what it sounds like Consider what each line is actually doing.
Jan 16, · Electric vacuum pump conversion Discussion in ‘L Just hook it up to the suction side. But you’ll have to figure out a way to turn it off. A vacuum tank would be a good addition. Basically i just ran it to the vacuum line that goes to the vacuum block for the HVAC. It only runs when the key is in the ON position.
I had one on my van that would not pump down past You can try a through inner cleaning of the pump case before a rebuild or tossing it. Take off pump case cover get some advise before trying. Leave the actual pump mechanism inside the case intact and leave it attached to case half that goes to the motor coupling. Wipe out the oil and crud that you can easily get. Spray the exposed insides with contact cleaner or auto brake cleaner.
Keep this spray out of your eyes and away from tender bare skin. Use a brush to loosen more crud and oil. Small natural bristle paint brush? Need to be repeated? When clean, blow compressed air gently all around the insides. Very little silicone plumber’s grease on the case bolt threads. Extra tight will be destructive!
