Please note that fender serial numbers tend to overlap by at least a year, and thereby the date of your guitar can only be approximated. Am I to assume since this site does not support Squier and info did come back that this guitar is a Fender that was MIK and not a Squier? The former were cheaper models with lower grade hardware, the later had slightly better quality hardware and some dimensions were closer to US Fender spec, although the body materials on most of them in both cases were plywood some later VN5s with two color gold logos had solid wood bodies and the electronics were cheap import type on all of them dime size k pots and 0. G&L Guitars (In Stock) Leo Fender is the man behind three of the world’s most famous musical instrument companies (Fender, Music Man, and G&L). His innovations and contributions are countless. G&L (George Fullerton & Leo Fender) continues that legacy today.

While the serial number information below refers only to instruments produced through , a significant change in serialization of instruments occurred in , with the advent of 4-bolt neck guitars. The 4-bolt neck guitars and 6-bolt basses changed to serial numbers beginning with “CL”. About one year later, the numbers changed to a “CLF” prefix.

There is one exception to the changes above. The George Fullerton model, which when changed to 4-bolt neck attachment, continued with serial numbers using the prefix “GF”, for “George Fullerton” until discontinued. Identifying the type of bridge is another excellent method of narrowing down the possible years of a particular model. Various spacing between the bridge and tailpiece were used over the years. In , Carvin began using the Schaller TB8 combination bridge tailpiece. This was chrome plated, and was offered with gold plating on the LB The body and the saddles were made from brass, and had 2″ spacing between outside strings, as would all future 4-string bridges.

In , Schaller changed the design of their one-piece bass bridge, making the mounting plate larger, which presumably provided more sustain and resonance. Like it’s pre-decessor, it was made from brass with brass saddles. Initially, this was only available in chrome, but would eventually be offered in black chrome and gold.

The Schaller bridge was changed again in , but still called the TB8. This bridge was distinctly different from it’s predecessors; most notably, the addition of roller saddles and a rounder design. This bridge was available in chrome, gold or black chrome finishes. In , the TB5 was added, which was identical to the TB8, but for 5-string basses.

The Wilkinson TW4 bridges were unusual in that they didn’t have a large metal plate that attached to the body of the bass.

The progress of this type of work is slow, hence the long hiatus, however, a lot of new data have been collected regarding Fender amplifiers, including production numbers. Advances have been made with regards to the production of tolex amps and it appears that much of this information can be applied to late s tweed amps as well. In addition, the dating-by-serial number tables have been revised and are more accurate. The bad news is that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done on the silverface amps.

Unfortunately, there is some sad news to report as well. Fellow Fender amp researcher, Greg Huntington, passed away June 5, after losing his battle with cancer. Greg kept his illness very private, even from this author. His passing is a great loss to this research team and the Fender amp aficionado community in general. Greg was passionate about Fender amps and his knowledge, insight and humor will be missed very much.

You must first determine what type of bridge is on your guitar. If you have a Floyd Rose system, there are 2 studs which hold the bridge system in place. You may adjust either the high or low side up or down with a 3mm wrench to achieve the desired action height. If you have a tune-o-matic style bridge, then you may adjust your action with a flat-head screwdriver on either the treble or bass side.

Some older models may only be adjustable by 2 thumbwheels located underneath both the treble and bass sides of the bridge.

Serial Numbers One of the areas that causes the most confusion for new members of the Heritage Owners Club is how to decipher and understand the serial numbering system employed by the factory. Essentially, each Heritage guitar is ink stamped with a six character serial number on the back of the headstock. The characters are comprised of a leading letter, denoting the year see table below , followed by five digits. The five digits of the serial number encode the day and order of manufacture for the guitar.

The first group of three digits represent the days remaining in the year on the day the guitar was completed. The last two digits indicate the build order on that day. For example, a guitar with a serial number of B can be decoded as follows: Year built is a rare find, indeed! The twelfth guitar completed on this day From this, we learn that the guitar in our example was the twelfth guitar finished on 15 JAN One of the interesting side effects of this numbering and encoding system is that guitars built later in a given year will actually have a seemingly “lower” serial number.

For instance, the first guitar completed on 1 FEB would have a serial number of B This reverse dating scheme initially seems confusing and counterintuitive, but it is actually very effective. If you are pursuing older Heritage guitars, you would seek guitars with a low initial character, followed by a relatively high set of “date” digits, followed by low trailing “build order” digits.
